Laat in de nacht heeft het Parlement van Aruba de Begroting 2026 van het Land Aruba goedgekeurd. De fractie van de Partido Patriótico Arubano (PPA) heeft deze begroting echter niet gesteund en tegen gestemd. De reden hiervoor is eenvoudig: wanneer de regering geen antwoorden geeft op vragen die door de PPA-fractie zijn ingediend, kan men geen begroting steunen waarin duidelijkheid en transparantie ontbreken over hoe publieke middelen—belastinggeld van de burgers—worden besteed. Om deze reden kon de PPA-fractie de Begroting 2026 niet ondersteunen.

Desondanks heeft de PPA de begroting grondig bestudeerd en vastgesteld dat deze voldoet aan de LAFT-wetgeving, opnieuw een overschot laat zien dit jaar, een norm boven de 1% handhaaft en dat de collectieve sector er financieel zeer gezond voorstaat. Deze cijfers tonen aan dat Aruba zich op een goede weg bevindt. Op basis van deze analyse was de PPA aanvankelijk bereid de begroting te steunen. Die houding veranderde echter toen de regering op het laatste moment een wijziging doorvoerde, wat door de PPA werd bestempeld als een daad van kwade opzet.

Fractievoorzitter Eduard Pieters van de PPA verklaarde dat de AVP–FUTURO-regering een wijziging heeft doorgevoerd die besluiten negeert en verwerpt die enkele dagen eerder door het Parlement van Aruba waren goedgekeurd. Voor de PPA-fractie is dit onaanvaardbaar. De wijziging houdt in dat de LIM-wet van het Land Aruba, die de structuur van de ministeries vastlegt en met een ruime meerderheid door het parlement was aangenomen, terzijde wordt geschoven.

Het kwaadaardige handelen van de AVP-regering en haar parlementaire volgers bestaat uit het selectief negeren van de wet. Maar daar blijft het niet bij: ook een amendement van parlementariër Mike de Meza wordt terzijde geschoven—een historisch voorstel dat gelijkheid binnen het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden beoogt. De AVP–FUTURO-regering heeft deze wijziging plotseling ingevoerd, “als een dief in de nacht,” en gedraagt zich als “een sluwe vos” door de LIM opzij te schuiven zodat de regering zonder controle kan doen wat zij wil.

Volgens Pieters laat dit niet alleen het amendement van Mike de Meza stranden, maar toont het ook aan dat de AVP–FUTURO-regering het Parlement van Aruba en het Arubaanse volk bespot. Dit is een kwaadaardige en onaanvaardbare bestuurspraktijk van de AVP–FUTURO-regering.

Late last night, the 2026 National Budget of the Country of Aruba was approved in Parliament. However, the faction of the Patriotic Aruban Party (PPA) did not support the budget and voted against it. The reason for this is simple: when the government fails to answer questions submitted by the PPA faction, it is impossible to support a budget that lacks clarity and transparency regarding how public funds—taxpayers’ money—will be spent. For this reason, the PPA faction could not stand behind the 2026 budget.

Nevertheless, the PPA did thoroughly review the budget and noted that it complies with the LAFT legislation, shows a surplus once again this year, maintains a norm above 1%, and reflects a very healthy collective sector. These indicators show that Aruba is on the right path. After reviewing the budget and recognizing that Aruba is moving in a positive direction, the PPA initially decided it was prepared to support the budget. However, when the government introduced a last-minute change in a malicious manner, the PPA could not accept this.

PPA faction leader Eduard Pieters stated that the AVP–FUTURO government introduced a change that ignored and rejected decisions previously approved by the Parliament of Aruba just days earlier. For the PPA faction, this is unacceptable. The change made by the government effectively set aside the LIM of the Country of Aruba, a law that establishes the structure of government ministries and which had received broad majority support in Parliament.

The malicious behavior of the AVP government and its parliamentary followers consists of selectively disregarding the law. But it does not stop there: it also discards an amendment proposed by parliamentarian Mike de Meza, a historic proposal calling for equality within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The AVP–FUTURO government introduced this change suddenly, “like a thief in the night,” acting as “a sly fox,” pushing the LIM aside so that the government can do as it pleases without control.

According to Pieters of the PPA, this not only undermines Mike de Meza’s efforts, but also shows that the AVP–FUTURO government is mocking the Parliament of Aruba and the people of Aruba. This is a malicious and unacceptable practice by the AVP–FUTURO government.
