Bij de HOH Academy en tijdens twee Mini DAS Clinics de Dutch Antillean South American Clinic in een mini-versie georganiseerd door de twee internisten van HOH, dr. Sandro Waterloo en dr. Bert Rodenburg, namen verschillende medische specialismen deel, evenals huisartsen, praktijkondersteuners, gespecialiseerde verpleegkundigen en andere zorgprofessionals om up-to-date te blijven.

Onlangs hebben huisartsen en specialisten een overeenkomst bereikt over de behandeling en doorverwijzing van patiënten. Tijdens deze dag werd dieper ingegaan op het identificeren van welk type patiënt tot welke zorglijn behoort. Dit leidt uiteindelijk tot meer efficiëntie en draagt bij aan het welzijn van de patiënt en de Arubaanse gemeenschap als geheel.

Bert Rodenburg, internist en infectioloog bij HOH, gaf aan dat de intentie van deze overeenkomst is om te verduidelijken welke patiënten door de huisarts behandeld kunnen worden en welke patiënten doorverwezen moeten worden naar een specialist. Het doel is om efficiënter gebruik te maken van de gezondheidszorg op Aruba. In veel gevallen kan de patiënt bij de huisarts blijven, omdat de huisarts over de juiste protocollen beschikt om de noodzakelijke behandeling te bieden. Na behandeling door een specialist kan de patiënt bovendien terugkeren naar de huisarts voor verdere controle. Dit zorgt voor betere toegankelijkheid van zorg en draagt bij aan een vermindering van de kosten voor AZV.

Tijdens de dag werden presentaties gegeven over verschillende medische specialisaties, waaronder nefrologie, orthopedie, cardiologie, oogheelkunde, interne geneeskunde, urologie en meer. De meeste presentaties werden verzorgd door een specialist samen met een huisarts om de protocollen te bespreken. Het doel was om de protocollen te verduidelijken en voorbeelden te geven van behandelingen die huisartsen zelf kunnen uitvoeren, evenals het verbeteren van de samenwerking.

Voor huisarts Dennis Rasmijn viel deze overeenkomst zeer goed in de smaak bij de huisartsen. Hij is tevreden dat men samen is gekomen om protocollen te bespreken en zo het systeem te uniformeren en efficiënter te maken. Dr. Rasmijn waardeert het verkrijgen van meer inzicht in hoe de protocollen op elkaar aansluiten, het leren van collega’s en het op de hoogte blijven van ontwikkelingen ten behoeve van het welzijn van de patiënt.

Nefroloog van HOH, Hardjit Kharagjitsing, gaf aan dat de DAS Clinic een uitstekend platform is, aangezien het fungeert als een brug tussen de eerstelijns- en tweedelijnszorg. Dit is zeer belangrijk, omdat meer samenwerking binnen de gezondheidszorg leidt tot betere organisatie van zorg, zowel op korte als op lange termijn. Op deze manier kan betere zorg worden geboden aan chronische patiënten, met een duidelijkere afstemming tussen specialisten en huisartsen.

Het was een zeer interactieve dag, met als belangrijkste doel voor alle deelnemers het vergroten van kennis over de protocollen, wat uiteindelijk zal leiden tot een hogere efficiëntie en kwaliteit van de gezondheidszorg op Aruba. Dank gaat uit naar alle sprekers, het ziekenhuis en het organisatieteam voor hun harde werk om dit evenement opnieuw mogelijk te maken.

At the HOH Academy and during two Mini DAS Clinics  the Dutch Antillean South American Clinic in a mini version  organized by the two internists of HOH, Dr. Sandro Waterloo and Dr. Bert Rodenburg, the event counted on the participation of various medical specialties, general practitioners, practice assistants, specialized nurses, and other healthcare professionals in order to stay up to date.

Recently, general practitioners and specialists reached an agreement regarding patient treatment and referrals. During this day, there was a deeper focus on identifying which type of patient belongs to which line of care. Ultimately, this leads to greater efficiency and improves the well-being of patients and the entire Aruba community.

Bert Rodenburg, internist and infectious disease specialist at HOH, explained that the intention of this agreement is to clarify which patients should be treated by general practitioners and which patients should be referred to specialists. The goal is to make more efficient use of healthcare in Aruba. In many cases, patients can remain under the care of their general practitioner because the GP has the appropriate protocols to provide the necessary treatment. After specialist treatment, patients can also return to their general practitioner for follow-up care. This results in greater accessibility to healthcare for patients, as well as a reduction in AZV healthcare costs.

During the day, presentations were given on various medical specialties, including nephrology, orthopedics, cardiology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, urology, and more. Most presentations were delivered by a specialist together with a general practitioner to discuss the protocols. The goal was to clarify the protocols and discuss different examples of treatments that general practitioners can perform themselves, as well as how collaboration can be improved.

According to general practitioner Dennis Rasmijn, this agreement was very well received among GPs. He expressed satisfaction with being able to come together to discuss protocols in order to standardize and make the system more efficient. Dr. Rasmijn appreciated receiving more information on how protocols align with each other, learning from colleagues, and staying informed about developments that benefit patient care.

HOH nephrologist Hardjit Kharagjitsing stated that the DAS Clinic is an excellent platform, as it serves as a bridge between primary and secondary care. This is very important because increased collaboration in healthcare allows for better organization of care, both in the short and long term. In this way, improved care can be provided to chronic patients, with clearer management between specialists and general practitioners.

It was a very interactive day, with the primary goal for all participants being to learn more about the protocols, which ultimately will increase efficiency and quality of healthcare in Aruba. Appreciation is extended to all speakers, the hospital, and members of the organizing team for their hard work in making this event possible once again.

Port St. Maarten Group (PSG) kondigt met genoegen aan dat de voorbereidingen in volle gang zijn voor het spectaculaire eindejaarsvuurwerk in Great Bay, een hoogtepunt van de nationale nieuwjaarsvieringen, dat zal plaatsvinden om middernacht op zaterdag 31 december.

PSG is bijzonder verheugd om het nieuwjaarsvuurwerk opnieuw aan de gemeenschap en haar stakeholders te kunnen aanbieden, voor een avond vol plezier, entertainment en feest terwijl we het nieuwe jaar 2026 ingaan.

Om de veiligheid van alle deelnemers te garanderen, schrijven de maritieme voorschriften voor dat er een strikte veiligheidsuitsluitingszone van 250 meter moet worden ingesteld en gehandhaafd rond het offshoreplatform vanwaar het vuurwerk wordt afgestoken. Deze zone zal van kracht zijn op zaterdag 31 december 2025, van 11:00 uur ’s ochtends tot middernacht.

Overeenkomstig deze maatregel geeft het management van Port St. Maarten een kennisgeving uit aan alle zeevarenden, bootgebruikers en jachthavengebruikers die zich varend, voor anker of afgemeerd in Great Bay bevinden, om de nodige voorbereidingen te treffen zoals hierboven vermeld.

PSG moedigt iedereen aan om samen met familie en vrienden te genieten van een veilige en feestelijke nieuwjaarsviering tijdens het vuurwerk in Great Bay op zaterdag 31 december, aldus de verklaring van het bedrijf.
