The end of the year is a season of peace and love, understanding and unity. Last night, in harmony with the Christmas season, the Prime Minister of Aruba, Mr. Mike Eman, together with the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Wendrick Cicilia, conducted the official ceremony to illuminate Plaza Daniel Leo and Caya Grandi.

“In this first walk through Caya Grandi, filled with festive lights, we see the path Aruba is on — once again a path filled with hope,” expressed Prime Minister Eman.

Minister Cicilia also shared his joy upon seeing the illuminated Caya Grandi, which symbolizes the vision that the AVP-Futuro Cabinet has for Aruba and for Caya Grandi. With the execution of various projects such as Ban Bek Caya, the revived hope is visible: the return of light to our streets with a focus on bringing wellbeing to the community — governing in the general interest, from the people, for the people.

“A government of Light,” Minister Cicilia stated.

In a short period, significant progress has been made on our island. These achievements are not mere gifts to the community, but rather rights the people were deprived of during the past eight years. Today, the people benefit from good governance — impressive results attained in just seven months.

Gisteravond, in aansluiting op de kerstperiode, hebben de Minister-President van Aruba, de heer Mike Eman, vergezeld door de Minister van Toerisme, de heer Wendrick Cicilia, de officiële ceremonie verricht van het ontsteken van de lichtversieringen op Plaza Daniel Leo en in Caya Grandi.

“De eerste wandeling door Caya Grandi, gevuld met feestelijke verlichting, weerspiegelt de weg waarop Aruba zich bevindt — opnieuw een pad vol hoop,” verklaarde premier Eman.

Minister Cicilia deelde eveneens zijn vreugde bij het zien van de verlichte Caya Grandi, een symbool van de visie die het kabinet AVP-Futuro heeft voor Aruba en voor Caya Grandi, in een periode waarin verschillende projecten zoals Ban Bek Caya worden uitgevoerd. Deze projecten weerspiegelen de hernieuwde hoop, brengen licht terug in de straten en zijn gericht op welzijn voor de gemeenschap — een bestuur dat handelt in het algemeen belang, van het volk, voor het volk.

“Een regering van Licht,” benadrukte minister Cicilia.

In een kort tijdsbestek zijn opmerkelijke resultaten behaald op ons eiland. Deze prestaties zijn niet zomaar cadeaus aan de gemeenschap, maar zaken waar de bevolking de afgelopen acht jaar recht op had. Vandaag plukt het volk de vruchten van goed bestuur — indrukwekkende prestaties, behaald in slechts zeven maanden.

Algun dia atras, Prome Minister Eman a anuncia cu MFA San Nicolas pronto lo bira un realidad. Na december lo saca e destaho publico pa duna inicio na e trabaonan pa e MFA na San Nicolas. The Parliament of Aruba recently addressed the consensus Kingdom Law HOFA. Unfortunately, a majority of 11 parliamentarians voted in favor, allowing the government to proceed with the process alongside the Netherlands. This is a regrettable situation for Aruba, as the country risks losing its financial autonomy—one of the most essential pillars of being an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Opposition parliamentarians, however, refuse to give up the fight and will use every available tool to secure a majority against the Kingdom Law in its current form. At present, 10 parliamentarians have expressed concerns and voted against the law; these include members of MEP, PPA, and Mike de Meza from AVP.

Because the government has already submitted the proposed law to the Netherlands, there is little that can be done at this stage—at least until the law reaches the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer). Once it is handled there, Aruba can submit a formal report indicating that its Parliament does not agree with the law. This is only possible if one more parliamentarian becomes aware of the serious negative consequences the law carries for Aruba. By agreeing to it, Parliament is making a grave mistake and forgetting the struggle of our ancestors that ultimately led to the Status Aparte.

With the Kingdom Law as it currently stands, the Aruban government once again agrees to give the Netherlands the final word on Aruba’s financial decisions. A country cannot be managed without control over its finances. By accepting the law, Aruba is effectively handing over its autonomy.

Therefore, it is crucial that the people rise up and question the parliamentarians and government who support this law. They must be urged, as representatives of the people, not to surrender the autonomy that Aruba fought so hard to achieve. There is still a possibility to stop this law—if just one more parliamentarian voices concerns and votes against it.

Onlangs heeft het Parlement van Aruba de consensus Rijkswet HOFA behandeld. Helaas bleek een meerderheid van 11 parlementariërs vóór te zijn, waardoor de regering het proces met Nederland verder kan voortzetten. Dit is een betreurenswaardige situatie voor Aruba, omdat het land hiermee het risico loopt zijn financiële autonomie te verliezen — een essentieel onderdeel van het statuut als autonoom land binnen het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.

De oppositieparlementariërs geven hun strijd echter niet op en zullen gebruikmaken van alle beschikbare middelen om alsnog een meerderheid te bereiken die zich uitspreekt tegen de Rijkswet in haar huidige vorm. Momenteel hebben 10 parlementariërs hun zorgen geuit en tegen de wet gestemd; dit betreft leden van MEP, PPA en Mike de Meza van de AVP.

Met de Rijkswet zoals die nu voorligt, geeft de Arubaanse regering Nederland opnieuw het laatste woord over Aruba’s financiële beslissingen. Een land kan niet worden bestuurd zonder controle over zijn financiën. Door akkoord te gaan met deze wet draagt Aruba zijn autonomie opnieuw over.

Daarom is het cruciaal dat het volk opstaat en vragen stelt aan de parlementariërs en de regering die deze wet steunen. Er moet van hen worden geëist dat zij de autonomie die Aruba zó zwaar bevocht, niet uit handen geven. Er is nog steeds een mogelijkheid om dit tegen te houden als één parlementariër zijn of haar zorgen uitspreekt en zich tegen de Rijkswet keert.
