With support from the Motor Unit, police were able to conduct controls at multiple strategic points in Oranjestad. The Aruba Police Force emphasizes that these operations will continue without interruption at various times and locations across different districts.

On Friday at 9:15 a.m., the Police Central Dispatch received a report of a serious accident on the main road near the roundabout in Pos Chiquito, heading Oranjestad. The accident involved a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

The commemorative session, held in the historic Grote Kerk in The Hague, marked exactly eighty years since the First and Second Chambers of Parliament convened together again after being suspended during the Second World War.

On 20 November 1945, the Dutch parliamentary system took its first steps toward recovery following years of war and occupation. With both Chambers having been rendered inoperative during the conflict, the post-war reconstruction of the Kingdom required not only physical rebuilding but also the restoration of democratic governance.

By attending this special session, Minister Plenipotentiary Arrindell reaffirmed Sint Maarten’s active engagement within the constitutional and democratic traditions of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Her presence emphasized not only recognition of the past but also Sint Maarten’s commitment to shared values, inter-island cooperation, and the safeguarding of democratic principles for future generations.

Extraordinary Joint Sessions are held only on exceptional occasions. The most recent prior session took place in 2015, marking the 200th anniversary of the States General. The symbolic date of 20 November 2025 was chosen to reflect on the end of the war, the meaning of freedom, and the importance of protecting democratic institutions in a time marked by conflict, polarization, and societal pressures.

The ceremony began at 10:30 AM on Thursday and lasted one hour. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Princess Amalia attended as honored guests.

Hare Excellentie Gevolmachtigde Minister Drs. Gracita R. Arrindell woonde op donderdag 20 november 2025 een Buitengewone Verenigde Vergadering van de Staten-Generaal bij.

De herdenkingszitting, gehouden in de historische Grote Kerk in Den Haag, markeerde precies tachtig jaar sinds de Eerste en Tweede Kamer opnieuw gezamenlijk bijeenkwamen na tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog te zijn geschorst.

Op 20 november 1945 zette het Nederlandse parlementaire systeem zijn eerste stappen richting herstel na jaren van oorlog en bezetting. Omdat beide Kamers tijdens het conflict buiten werking waren gesteld, vereiste de wederopbouw van het Koninkrijk na de oorlog niet alleen fysieke reconstructie, maar ook het herstel van democratisch bestuur.

Door deze bijzondere zitting bij te wonen, bevestigde Gevolmachtigde Minister Arrindell Sint Maartens actieve betrokkenheid binnen de constitutionele en democratische tradities van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.

Haar aanwezigheid onderstreepte niet alleen erkenning van het verleden, maar ook Sint Maartens inzet voor gedeelde waarden, inter-eilandelijke samenwerking en het beschermen van democratische principes voor toekomstige generaties.

Buitengewone Verenigde Vergaderingen worden slechts bij uitzonderlijke gelegenheden gehouden. De meest recente vond plaats in 2015 ter gelegenheid van het 200-jarig bestaan van de Staten-Generaal. De symbolische datum van 20 november 2025 werd gekozen om stil te staan bij het einde van de oorlog, de betekenis van vrijheid en het belang van het beschermen van democratische instellingen in een tijd die wordt gekenmerkt door conflict, polarisatie en maatschappelijke druk.
