Een uiterst onbegrijpelijke en opmerkelijke situatie heeft zich voorgedaan in het Arubaanse Parlement tijdens de openbare vergadering over de Landsverordening inzake de Instelling en Aangelegenheden van Ministeries (LIM). De AVP-fractie, de grootste partij binnen de coalitie, diende een motie in waarin het Kabinet werd opgeroepen om zo spoedig mogelijk een Gevolmachtigde Minister (GevMin) in Den Haag te benoemen.

De motie van AVP benadrukt dat de functie van Gevolmachtigde Minister van essentieel belang is voor het behartigen van de belangen van Aruba binnen het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden. De motie wijst erop dat de functie vacant is of slechts waargenomen wordt zonder definitieve benoeming, en dat het in het belang is van continuïteit, effectieve belangenbehartiging en diplomatieke vertegenwoordiging om deze positie met spoed te vervullen. Daarom wordt de Regering verzocht de noodzakelijke stappen te nemen om een Gevolmachtigde Minister te benoemen met de juiste diplomatieke ervaring, bestuurlijke kennis en voldoende draagvlak.

De eerste signalen van problemen binnen de coalitie werden zichtbaar toen coalitiepartner Futuro de motie niet mede ondertekende. De situatie verslechterde verder toen deze partner tijdens de stemming tegen de motie van hun eigen coalitiepartner stemde.

Het stemadvies van de Ministers bracht een volledige tegenstelling in denkwijze aan het licht. De Minister-President (AVP) noemde de motie “sympathiek,” terwijl de Minister van Futuro verklaarde dat de motie niet noodzakelijk was en dat het niet benoemen van een Gevolmachtigde Minister een manier is om geld te besparen.

Deze reactie schetst een beeld waarin de ene coalitiepartner de benoeming als noodzakelijk beschouwt, terwijl de andere deze ziet als een overbodige uitgave die vermeden kan worden.

Is de aanwezigheid van Aruba binnen het Koninkrijk slechts “sympathiek” maar “te veel”? Het resultaat van de motie dwingt tot de conclusie dat er een ernstig probleem bestaat op het gebied van coördinatie en gezamenlijke visie binnen dit coalitie-“huwelijk.” Het is positief dat AVP eindelijk het belang inziet van de benoeming van een Gevolmachtigde Minister, een sleutelpositie voor de positie van Aruba binnen het Koninkrijk. De manier waarop de coalitie dit onderwerp heeft behandeld, roept echter ernstige twijfels op over haar vermogen om samen te werken aan kwesties van vitaal belang voor het land.

Tot slot is de machtsongelijkheid opvallend, waarbij het lijkt alsof een grote partij zoals AVP Futuro de richting laat bepalen. Aanvankelijk wilde Futuro niet dat mevrouw Desiree Croes aanbleef en werd verdere benoeming geblokkeerd. Nu lijkt het er echter op dat AVP eindelijk tegen haar junior partner in gaat op een kwestie die van groot belang is voor ons land.

A highly incomprehensible and remarkable situation unfolded in the Parliament of Aruba during the public meeting to discuss the National Ordinance on the Establishment and Affairs of Ministries (LIM). The AVP faction, the largest party in the coalition, submitted a motion urging the Cabinet to appoint a Plenipotentiary Minister (GevMin) in The Hague as soon as possible.

The AVP motion emphasizes that the position of Plenipotentiary Minister is of essential importance for defending Aruba’s interests within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It highlights that the position is currently vacant or being filled on an acting basis without a definitive appointment, and that continuity, effective advocacy, and diplomatic representation require that this position be urgently filled. Therefore, the motion calls on the Government to take the necessary steps to appoint a Plenipotentiary Minister with the appropriate diplomatic experience, governmental knowledge, and political support.

Signs of trouble within the coalition became evident when coalition partner Futuro did not co-sign the motion. The situation worsened when, at the time of voting, this partner voted against the motion submitted by their own coalition partner.

The voting advice given by the Ministers revealed a complete contradiction in perspectives. The Prime Minister (AVP) described the motion as “sympathetic,” while the Minister from Futuro stated that the motion was unnecessary and that not making an appointment was a way to save money.

This reaction paints a picture in which one coalition partner sees the appointment as a necessity, while the other considers it an unnecessary expense that can be avoided.

Is Aruba’s presence within the Kingdom merely “sympathetic” but “too much”? The outcome of the motion forces the conclusion that there is a serious problem of coordination and shared vision within this coalition “marriage.” It is positive that AVP has finally taken a stand on the importance of appointing a Plenipotentiary Minister  key position for Aruba’s standing within the Kingdom. However, the way the coalition handled this matter raises serious doubts about its ability to work together on issues of vital importance to the country.

Finally, the imbalance of power is striking, as it appears that a large party such as AVP is allowing Futuro to dictate direction. Initially, Futuro did not want Mrs. Desiree Croes to remain appointed and subsequently blocked any further appointments. Now, however, it seems that AVP is finally standing up to its junior partner on an issue that is so important to our country.

The Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), Directorate of Space & Development (R&O), looks back with satisfaction on the information session regarding the re-registration of clearing teams for green maintenance work in the 2026 work year. The session took place on December 18, 2025, at Plasa Chiku Goeloe and was well attended by both existing and new clearing teams.

During the session, the renewed approach for 2026 was explained. From that year onwards, green maintenance tasks will be tendered quarterly and divided across Bonaire’s four districts. This approach ensures more transparency, clarity in execution, and a more professional collaboration with local clearing teams.

Attending clearing teams were briefed on the re-registration procedure, minimum requirements, and expectations for the upcoming work year. There was also space to ask questions, provide suggestions, and register immediately.

According to Ligwino Leito, Acting Director Secretary of the Directorate of Space & Development and presenter of the session, re-registration is an important step:“With this re-registration, we start consciously with a clean slate. We are creating a transparent system that provides clarity and contributes to high-quality green maintenance on Bonaire.”

The OLB emphasizes that all clearing teams must re-register, even if they were registered in previous years. Re-registration is possible until December 30, 2025. To register, an email can be sent to directie_ro@bonairegov.com, including the following documents:
